The 90s was a decade in which fashion took a brighter turn. It was an era known for its prosperity in fashion sensations and trends. The’90s hip-hop fashion drove a scene in the fashion industry that we still see as a revolution. From bucket hats, high-waisted pants, baggy jeans, bandanas, crop tops -to mention a few, fashion indeed came with a bang!
Quick question -when you think back to the 90s and what was dapper, hip hop fashion, tommy hilfiger, ll cool, air jordan, juicy couture, 90s brands, don’t you get super nostalgic? Well, I do, and I’m excited to see some of them again! It’s not a mistake that creatives and fashion influencers constantly look back at 90s fashion for approaches.
Meanwhile, looking back at these fashions, there is an unavoidable connection to certain brands that act as references. Since the 90s was when branding and marketing became a culture in the fashion world, some brands brought out the best in that era. These labels made us interested in fashion and its endless possibilities. We fell in love with them, and they made it easy for us to look like our favorite celebrities. We’d never forget them.
Although some are no longer at the forefront, we shall still recognize them in this post. So, here is a quick rundown of some 90s clothes brands that ruled the decade without leaving room for lapses. Let’s go down this reflective journey together!
Iconic 90s Clothes Brands We Couldn’t Get Enough Of!
In no particular order, here are five top 90s fashion clothing brands we all loved:
1. 90s Clothes Brands – Tommy Hilfiger
This label didn’t just emerge recently but has its history traced to the 90s. Frankly, Tommy Hilfiger and the ‘90s aesthetics are almost synonymous. Famous artists like Snoop Dogg rocked this trend and influenced their fans to copy the style.
Tommy Hilfiger had many supermodels dressed in its signature red, white, and blue designs as this showed that they were trendy. You weren’t so cool if you wanted to hang out with friends and didn’t have this logo! This was the fad towards the mid-90s.
But as we thought it would fade out, we had another bash when Aaliyah rocked the Tommy Hilfiger sports bra and underwear and a pair of denim. That was it! It had a BOOM all over again!
From then till the end of the 90s, the clothes brand reigned supreme, with almost every hip-hop artist being spotted having a touch of the Tommy aesthetics.
2. Juicy Couture
When I reminisce over what this brand stood for, I get the image of the pinky and tacky tracksuit. Yes, we wouldn’t be talking about 90s clothes brands in 90s fashion without including this icon common among the 90s women. I doubt there is anything that gives off the ‘90s vibe more than this.
Juicy Couture is known for its tight, comfy, yet gaudy velour tracksuit worn by many female icons in the 90s and early 2000s. In short, it’s was just a pair of bonafide PJs with ‘JUICY’ on the butt area.
Big names like Jennifer Lopez and Lindsay Lohan showed us how to rock it, and it became a legacy. As unfashionable as it might have looked then, we still get nostalgic about them.
Were they tacky? YES!
But would we love to see them again? DEFINITELY!
3. FUBU
‘For Us By Us’ was a fashion statement prevalent amongst rappers and hip-hop artists. Before YOLO became a thing, FUBU was the catchphrase. It was at the forefront of urban and street style and hip hop fashion.
Daymond John founded the brand, and it had something for everyone in its collection. From T-Shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, sneakers, jeans, and hats, 90s Clothes Brand FUBU took the 90s fashion era by storm.
Veteran MC and actor LL Cool J was known for always being spotted rocking for the brand. He was a pivotal icon that helped blow up the brand’s name in the 90s. His flair for the brand had people almost thinking he owned it. We guess it was just his hip hop fashion signature style, and we loved it.
4. 90s Clothes Brands – GAP
For affordable outfits that still looked fashionable, everyone turned to GAP. Of all other 90s clothes brands, Gap was the most basic yet complete.
In the 90s, your whole closet could be made up of just Gap pieces. Gap had it all from undergarments, T-shirts, Hoodies, khakis, and even corporate attire! If you didn’t have a Gap outfit, you weren’t fashion-forward. The ‘cool teens’ were obsessed with the brand.
Sadly, the label had quite the reputation for being too basic, so it might not be one of the 90s brands that return to us as a chic collection.
5. Karl Kani
Karl Kani was a household name in the 90s, and black rappers didn’t sleep on it. The Urban streetwear brand established a reputation much appreciated in the hip-hop fashion world. Icons like Tupac and Biggie were down to support the black-owned enterprise and were almost always found rocking it in front of the cameras.
Wait! That’s not all! We still have many top 90s clothes brands that also reigned supreme. They include Air Jordan, Tommy Hilfiger, Juicy couture, Guess, Reebok, Calvin Klein, and others. They aren’t limited to these, but that’d be the few we name in this post. I hope that works.
Finally, OUR VERDICT on 90s brands in 90s fashion: We’d love to see them again! They were once HOT, so they shouldn’t do so bad now!
